Privacy Policy for Novel Reader

Novel Reader ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") is a mobile application that lets you browse, read, and listen to novels, including via an in-app web browser and text-to-speech features. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.

By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Information We Collect

a. Account Information

If you choose to sign in (via Firebase Authentication), we may collect and store basic account details such as your email address and a unique user ID, so that your reading history, bookmarks, and settings can be synced across devices.

b. Content You Provide

• Files you import into the App (e.g. EPUB files) via the device file picker.
• Bookmarks, reading progress, pinned websites, and reading preferences you create in the App.

c. Usage & Diagnostic Data

We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the App is used and to diagnose crashes or errors. This may include:

• Device information (device model, operating system version, language, locale)
• App usage events (screens viewed, features used, session duration)
• Crash logs and diagnostic/performance data
• Approximate, non-precise location derived from IP address (for regional analytics only; we do not request or access GPS/precise location)

d. In-App Browser / WebView Data

The App includes a built-in web browser (WebView) that lets you browse novel and comic websites and blocks ads/trackers using a local ad-blocking filter list. When you use this browser:

• Standard web data (cookies, local storage, browsing/search history within the in-app browser) may be stored locally on your device to keep you signed in to third-party sites and to let you resume where you left off.
• We do not read, collect, or transmit the content of pages you browse to our servers.
• The ad-block filter lists are bundled with or downloaded by the App and run entirely on your device; no browsing data is sent to us or to third parties for this feature.

e. Text-to-Speech (TTS)

When you use the read-aloud feature, the text of the chapter you are reading may be sent to a third-party text-to-speech service in order to generate audio. No personally identifiable information is attached to these requests.

f. Device Permissions

The App does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, or precise location.

2. How We Use Information

• To provide, operate, and maintain the App's core features (reading, browsing, syncing, and audio playback).
• To sync your bookmarks, reading progress, and settings across your devices when signed in.
• To monitor and improve App performance, fix bugs, and understand feature usage.
• To communicate with you about updates or support, if you contact us.

We do not sell your personal information.

3. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

• Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Analytics, Crashlytics) — Google Privacy Policy
• Text-to-speech provider used to convert chapter text into audio.
• Third-party novel/comic websites that you choose to visit through the in-app browser are subject to their own privacy policies and terms.

4. Data Storage & Security

Your reading data (bookmarks, progress, preferences) is stored locally on your device and, if you are signed in, is also synced to Google Firebase's cloud infrastructure. We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

5. Data Retention

We retain account and sync data for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account and associated data at any time from within the App, or by contacting us using the details below.

6. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

7. Your Choices

• You can use most reading features without creating an account.
• You can clear the in-app browser's cookies and local data from the App's settings.
• You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account data by contacting us.
• You can uninstall the App at any time to stop all data collection by the App.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
